Kids room upgrades… Part 1

The plan for the kids rooms, which make up the northern end of the house, is to essentially gut them and start all over again. When we first inspected the house in November, that end of the house was at least 5 degrees hotter than the rest of the house.

That section of the house was built in 1990 and unlike the rest of the house which is double brick, was build as a brick veneer. The walls had no insulation, or sarking, so the heat from the sun on the northern side of the house really penetrated. It also looked like one of the walls in the boys room had been used as a dart board, as the plaster was completely covered in tiny holes.

So while Dad ripped the walls and ceilings off the rooms (the ones needing major repairs, or insulation), I got busy ordering the insulation for the house. This included walls and underfloor batts for the kids rooms, and roof insulation for the whole house.

I should also mention that dad and Keith did an amazing job of loading the last skip bin that was collected. The two of them loaded and 8 tonne skip from empty to absolutely full with the old kitchen, all of the carpet and underlay from the house and the last of the bricks and flooring. The Bingo guy even complimented dad on his packing of the bin, saying he’d never seen a bin packed so well! Thanks oldies!

Here are a few before, during after shots, excuse the panorama, just the easiest way to get the rooms in a single shot.
