Step by step… Part 1

The plan for the Lounge is to extend the kitchen about a foot into the lounge area to accommodate a deeper kitchen island. This kitchen island will probably end up having the cook-top on it, so i wanted it to be extra wide so that splashes aren’t going straight down onto the lounge floor. We will remove the balustrade  (already gone) and then extend the steps the full length of the northern end of the lounge, this will then match the western side of the lounge.

To do this, I am going to build out the slab, and then form up some new steps that go across to the window side of the lounge room.

Keith is never one to miss out on a concreting session, so he took charge of the mixer while I set the form-work up. Special mention to Dad for supplying the mixer, worked like a charm.

It is always hard to fathom where it goes, but that single bit of slab has about 700Kgs of sand and aggregate, as well as  70Kgs of cement, and it all mixed together, only just filled the form-work. As a result, we didn’t get the steps poured yet, but that will happen this weekend!
